Before you travel

Is Morocco safe to visit?

Yes. Morocco is one of the most visited countries in North Africa, with millions of tourists every year. As anywhere, take basic precautions, look after your belongings and follow the advice of the authorities and your driver or guide.

What documents do I need?

A passport valid for your whole stay. Depending on your nationality you may also need a visa. See Morocco visa and entry requirements.

Do I need travel insurance?

It is not mandatory for most travellers, but highly recommended: it covers medical care, accidents, cancellations and lost luggage.

When is the best time to visit?

Morocco can be visited all year. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are ideal for combining cities, mountains and desert. In winter desert nights are cold, and in summer it is very hot at midday.

What should I wear?

Light, comfortable clothes for the day, a warm layer for the desert night, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat or scarf. In medinas and villages, clothes covering shoulders and knees are appreciated.

Money

What is the currency?

The Moroccan dirham (MAD). Some hotels and tourist shops accept euros or dollars, but most daily payments are in dirhams.

Where can I change money?

At banks, authorised exchange offices and airports. There are ATMs in every city and tourist area.

Are cards accepted?

Visa and Mastercard are accepted in many hotels, restaurants and shops in the cities. In souks, small shops and rural areas, bring cash.

Should I tip?

Tipping is not mandatory, but it is customary and appreciated for drivers, guides and hotel and restaurant staff when the service has been good.

During your trip

Can I drink tap water?

We recommend bottled water throughout your trip to avoid stomach upsets.

What languages are spoken?

The official languages are Arabic and Amazigh (Berber). French is widely used, and in tourist areas many people speak English and Spanish.

What plugs are used?

Types C and E, at 220 V and 50 Hz, as in most of continental Europe. Travellers from the UK, US and other countries need an adapter.

About our tours

What is the difference between a shared and a private tour?

On a shared tour you travel by minibus with other travellers on a fixed itinerary, which keeps the price low. On a private tour the vehicle and driver are just for your group and you choose the dates and pace.

How do I book and pay?

Message us on WhatsApp, by email or with the form. Once availability is confirmed we ask for a 20% deposit and the rest is paid on the first day of the tour. See our terms and conditions.

What is the desert camp like?

Berber tents with beds, blankets and shared areas. In the Comfort category bathrooms are shared; in the Superior category each tent has a private bathroom. Dinner is served at the camp and there is usually music by the fire.
